If you are relatively new to vaping, you may not know the importance of priming a coil after you insert a new one. Ensuring that your coil is adequately primed avoids dry hits and burning out your brand-new coil – not ideal.
It is a simple and easy process, so once you have done it once you’ll know exactly what you are doing.
When should I change my coil?
Before we start, let’s have a look at when you should change your coil. Once you have been vaping for a little bit, it’ll be pretty clear to you when you need to change your coil.
However, for beginners, you may just think there is a fault with you e-cig or the quality of the juice you are vaping. If you start to notice that the quality of the vapor production has decreased, or that the flavour from your juice has declined, it’s probably about time to change your coil. If you start to experience a burnt taste when you vape, you coil is definitely a goner.
What is priming a coil?
In simple terms, priming is ensuring that you saturate your coil before using it. It is important to prime your coil for various reasons, the main is to avoid a dry hit while vaping. If you have ever experienced a ‘dry hit’ then you’ll completely understand how important the priming process is. Priming your coil will also prolong the life of the coil and it will make sure that you are getting the very best flavour from your juice.
There are a few simple steps that you can follow to make sure that you are getting the very best from your coil:
Step 01: To start priming your coil, add a single drop of liquid to each hole, this will start the wicking process, make sure that the coil is soaked through and fully saturated.
It is important to make sure that you don’t flood the coil – this occurs when the liquid has made its way into the centre hole of the coil. That liquid tends to collect at the base of the coil and remain unvapourised. This will cause your tank to leak.
Step 02: Once you have primed your coil, insert it into your e-cig, add your chosen liquid and wait 5-10 minutes to ensure the coil is fully saturated. The longer you leave it the better, but most coils should be ready to vape after around 10 minutes.
Step 03: Inhale with no power – inhale several times through your e-cig without pressing the power button to draw the liquid through the coil.
Step 04: If you have a variable wattage device, it is recommended that you set the wattage at a lower level than you usually would. Take a few puffs to ensure the flavour is coming through, and then gradually increase the power to your desired wattage.
