Don’t believe everything you read online or in the media. In this post you will learn the chemicals in e-liquid and why not all of them are as bad as you’re led to believe.
Misinformation in vaping is a common thing, especially when it comes to the Chemicals in E-liquid. Usually its negative misinformation like “vaping will give you popcorn lung” (more on that bollocks here) or “people are dying from vaping”, when it turns out people are actually dying from vaping Pods filled with goodness knows what they bought off the street. In this instance vaping is purely the verb, like for example, people are dying from driving. No, people are dying from crashing. Driving won’t kill you on its own. Anyway, I digress…
Positive misinformation in vaping is just as bad if you ask me. People need to know what it is they’re doing and then they can make informed decisions on whether they really want to do it.
Here’s common example of misinformation in vaping, a post that gets circulated on social media regularly, often by people who should know better:
When people ask why you vape or when people say “there’s no proof it’s better for you”

Make your choice…. !
So what’s wrong with this post?
First of all, it implies that chemicals are bad. Again, misinformation in vaping.
It always cracks me up when people describe a flavour as tasting like chemicals. I always think “of course it does mate, that’ll be because it’s made of chemicals”. Everything is made of chemicals. Even things that aren’t tangible, like feelings. They are purely a release of different chemicals in the brain. The sun turns hydrogen into helium via nuclear fusion. Chemicals. Oranges are made up of carotenoids, flavonoids, aldehydes and esters. Guess what they are… CHEMICALS!
Chemicals can be good or bad for you. The word should not be used as a derogatory term for something.
Secondly and I guess this is the biggest point, a lot of the chemicals in that list above can be found in the flavour compounds used to make recipes for e-liquid.
Here’s a few obvious ones off that list that are chemicals in e-liquid:
- Acetoin is a chemical in e-liquid
- Ethyl Alcohol is a chemical in e-liquid
- Ethyl Vanillin is a chemical in e-liquid
- Citric Acid is a chemical in e-liquid
- Acetyl pyrazine is a chemical in e-liquid
- Butyric Acid is a chemical in e-liquid
- Ethyl Maltol is a chemical in e-liquid
- Ascorbic Acid is a chemical in e-liquid
- Coffee is a chemical in e-liquid
- Ethyl Butyrate is a chemical in e-liquid
- 3-Hexen-1-Ol is a chemical in e-liquid
That’s right, all of the above are chemicals in e-liquid.
In fact, there aren’t just 4 ingredients in e-liquid. There are 3 main ingredients – Vegetable Glycerin, Propylene Glycol and nicotine, but then there are lots of small amounts of chemicals in e-liquid like the ones listed above which make up the flavourings. There’s likely to be at least 30 of these in any e-liquid recipe. That’s not to say they are dangerous in any way, they are just the chemicals used to create flavourings.
I’ve seen that post above shared by vape company owners and mixologists alike and I always think to myself “how in the fuck did you get where you are without a basic understanding of what you are doing?”
Of course there are chemicals in e-liquid! Flavourings aren’t just made up of… flavour. What? Everything in the world is made up of chemicals but flavourings are made of… Magic!
I don’t think so.
With vaping being as new as it is and companies and governments so intent on fuckery, I implore you all to do your own research about what we are doing here.
Misinformation in vaping is rife and that way, when the bull shit boomerang comes back around you are armed with cold, hard facts to defend this hobby we have worked so hard to build.
