- Avoid Cross-contamination
The great thing about flavour concentrates is that they are very strong, these little concentrates can make amazing flavours, but it also means that a small amount ending up where it shouldn’t can significantly affect the flavour profile of your DIY E-liquid.
Avoiding cross-contamination is the simplest thing you can do to improve upon your DIY E-liquid mixing skills:
- Make sure that you thoroughly wash your syringes after use to avoid leaving any residue.
- Make sure that you thoroughly wash all containers you are using to hold base liquids or flavour concentrates.
- Clean up any spillages immediately, it’s easy for liquid to end up where it shouldn’t if you have a messy mixing area!
- Keep a record of everything!
We can’t stress this enough, when mixing DIY E-liquid make sure that you record every single thing that you do, there is nothing worse than mixing an amazing DIY E-liquid and not being able to remember what it is you did to make it so amazing! Invest in a log book and make sure that you label all of your bottles, trust us, it’s important!
- Accuracy is everything!
When mixing DIY E-liquid, accuracy is just as important as recording your every move, it is important that you measure accurately if you want to be able to replicate your results in future – recording the exact quantities is equally as important.
Top tip: to make it easier, ensure that you are using the right syringe, use the smallest syringe you can for the amount that you are trying to measure, this will ensure that you measurements are as accurate as possible.
Once you have mastered the syringe, we would recommend moving onto digital scales – it’s less messy and far more accurate when mixing DIY E-liquid.
You can find more information on digital scales here.
- Steep your DIY E-liquid
Steeping is the term used for a number of chemical processes that occur in order for your liquid to reach its full potential. While steeping and taste is subjective, steeping is essential when it comes to most recipes that contain custards, creams, tobacco or bakery flavours. Take a look at our blog on the art of steeping for more information.
When determining how long to steep your liquid for, make sure that you record the taste at intervals, and try to record the amount of time needed to get the best results.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment when it comes to DIY E-liquid!
As mentioned above, taste is subjective, not everyone likes their DIY E-liquid the same, the beauty of DIY E-liquid is that you can tailor your juices to your own unique tastes, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavour percentages and combos – that’s what makes DIY mixing so fun!
