We’ve all been there, we pick up our e-cig, take a big inhale and instead of the sweet taste of vape goodness we’re left coughing up our guts from the flames of satan, to make things worse, the coil is a goner too – that my friends, is what we call a dry hit vape.
Luckily, we’ve got few tips and tricks to help you avoid a dry hit vape, most of them are pretty simple, once you see them you’ll be wondering how you didn’t think of that in the first place – don’t worry, we’ve all been there.
The main cause of a dry hit is when the cotton in your coil is not saturated fully with e-liquid. There are a few reasons this can happen, it’ll either be a wicking issue, an empty tank or the wattage of your device.
How to avoid a dry hit when vaping
Does your tank have juice in? It might sounds like a stupid question, but trust us, it’s easily done. If you’re experiencing a dry hit, check your juice level first, most modern tanks have a minimum juice line, make sure to keep it above this at all times to avoid any dry hits.
Are you running your tank at the correct wattage for the coil you have installed? Replacement coils have a recommended wattage range on the side of them, if you run your tank above this wattage then you may experience a dry hit as the coil can not keep up with the amount of juice required to keep your wicking material wet.
Adjust your airflow: another common reason for a dry hit is that you haven’t adjusted your airflow correctly. Some tanks have an adjustable airflow setting to enable you to tailor the device to your preference. However, if the airflow is completely open, air will move freely across the coil and wick assembly, when this happens the act of drawing air into the atomizer is not enough to pull a sufficient amount of liquid into the wick, causing a dry hit.
When did you last change your coil? It is important that you change your coil head on a regular basis in order to avoid build up of sweetner on the coil, this reduces the effectiveness of the coil and compromises the taste and quality of your juice. Make sure that you prime your coil for the required amount of time after changing, it’s always best to leave it for at least 20 minutes.
Are you using the correct juice ratio for your device? If you are using a juice that is too thick for your device (too high VG %) it may not wick correctly and will cause a dry hit. It’s important to check the ratio of any device before putting liquid into the tank.
There you have it, 5 simple steps to avoid a dry hit when vaping, if you follow these steps the chances are you’ll avoid in nasty dry hits in the future.
